Ferrel “FC” Bonner, a military veteran, cybersecurity expert, and lifelong public servant, has officially declared his candidacy for Fort Bend County Judge. With over 30 years of military, political, and grassroots advocacy experience, Bonner aims to bring steady, experienced leadership to the county during a time of political uncertainty.
A Gulf War veteran, Bonner retired from the U.S. Army after 20 years of distinguished service, specializing in Military Intelligence and supporting operations for the National Security Agency (NSA). His military résumé includes expertise in:
Tactical Communications
Emergency Operations
Special Operations
PATRIOT Missile Defense
Personnel & Security Management
Post-service, Bonner held senior roles as a Certified Cyber Security Practitioner and served as an Information Assurance Officer for federal agencies, including the U.S. Department of Justice and the Department of Veterans Affairs in Washington, D.C.
Upon retiring from the military, Bonner returned to Fort Bend County where he has spent over two decades investing in local civic, educational, and cultural initiatives. His contributions include:
Vice Chair, Fort Bend County Historical Commission
Board Member, Exchange Club of Fort Bend County
Graduate, Fort Bend Chamber Leadership Forum
Volunteer, Meals on Wheels Fort Bend
Leadership Roles, FBISD Committees (Facilities Steering, SL95, Capacity Audit)
Civic Engagement, Voter Registration, Emergency Aid Resource Center (SEARCH), Census education
Bonner is also active with organizations such as 100 Black Men of Houston, Houston Area Urban League, Missouri City NAACP, and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., with which he served on a humanitarian mission to Haiti following the 2010 earthquake.
Bonner’s track record in community mentorship and youth empowerment is extensive. He has coached Pop Warner Football, youth basketball, and Missouri City’s girls softball teams. He’s also contributed to educational initiatives like “Real Men Read,” United Way’s Project Blueprint, and historic preservation projects such as Houston’s Freedmen’s Town and the Mountain View Colored Officers Club Restoration Project.
Bonner holds a Bachelor’s in Political Science and a Master of Public Administration (MPA) in Public Policy. His campaign is grounded in a philosophy of inclusive service, transparency, and long-term community development.
“I am a firm believer that despite our personal shortcomings and differences, everyone should strive toward Making A Difference Everyday,” Bonner says, reinforcing his platform’s core message.
Bonner joins a growing field of Democratic candidates that already includes District Judge Christian Becerra and former Precinct 3 Constable Nabil Shike. With current Judge KP George under legal scrutiny and yet to announce a re-election bid, the race is expected to be one of the most competitive primaries in Fort Bend County history.
