Details of the Charges Against George

George is accused of two felony counts of money laundering, with alleged amounts between $30,000 and $150,000. The charges reportedly stem from incidents related to his 2019 campaign, including allegations of wire fraud and falsifying campaign finance reports.

In response, George defended himself by stating he had loaned money to his campaign and repaid it—describing the transactions as “a standard and lawful practice.”

“Allegations and accusations are being made without full context or disclosure of the facts — deliberately manipulating the narrative to tarnish my reputation and character,” he said in a written statement.

Prior Controversy Resurfaces

This is not George’s first legal trouble. In September 2024, he was indicted on unrelated charges linked to a social media scandal. Prosecutors alleged that George and former staffer Taral Patel orchestrated fake racist attacks against George’s campaign to elicit public sympathy.

Patel, who ran unsuccessfully for a county commissioner seat, also faces several criminal charges for his involvement in the scandal.

Bipartisan Criticism Grows

Calls for George’s resignation have come from both parties. Republican Precinct 3 Commissioner Andy Meyers and Precinct 1 Commissioner Vincent Morales previously demanded George step down after his September indictment. Morales reiterated his position in a new statement following the money laundering charges.

“I remain extremely concerned about the business of our county government through these disturbing events,” Morales said.

Democratic Precinct 4 Commissioner Dexter McCoy also weighed in, calling the allegations “serious and deeply troubling.” He emphasized the need to maintain stability and focus on public service despite the turmoil.

Next Steps in Legal Proceedings

KP George’s first court appearance for the latest charges is scheduled for May 19, 2025. The outcome could have significant implications not only for his political career but also for Fort Bend County’s leadership structure moving forward.
