$8.2 Million Fraud Hits Fort Bend County MUD 35 Investment Account

Fort Bend County Municipal Utility District No. 35 (MUD 35) revealed in a press release that it has fallen victim to $8.2 million in fraudulent transfers from its investment account. The unauthorized activity was identified on April 8, a day after the transfers were executed on April 7, 2025.

The administrator of the public funds investment pool that held the funds immediately notified the FBI and MUD 35’s bookkeeping firm upon discovery of the suspicious activity.

KP George has denied any wrongdoing and claimed the indictments are politically driven.

Partial Recovery and Ongoing Efforts

So far, $3.4 million of the transferred funds have been successfully recalled and returned to the MUD’s investment account. Recovery efforts for the remaining balance are ongoing.

According to the district, only the investment account was compromised. Their traditional banking account, used for day-to-day operations and vendor payments, remains secure.
